Well, it's been a few weeks since there's been any word from us. Life got a little busy for me as one of my friends (Elizabeth) was getting married on the 15th and I was the Matron of Honor... so there was much to do before I flew home to Louisiana for the wedding. Elizabeth is living in China, which is where she met her husband, so this truly was a destination wedding. What a long, crazy week. Where to begin???
I flew in Monday night, picked Elizabeth up later that night and hence began the week of staying up way too late :) It really is a girl thing. Anyway, Elizabeth is a wonderful girl but not very organized so there were many plans to take care of the week before the wedding. I truly feel like we planned 75% of the wedding the week of! There were several near show stoppers... such as Tuesday night when she tried on her wedding dress (which she had ordered while living in China) and we discovered it was about 3-4 inches too long. Even 6" spiked stilletos weren't going to help this! So after removing the ribbon from the bottom of the dress, Wednesday night I spent 2 hours cutting the bottom of her dress off! Yes, we're still speaking to each other. We were sure to give her a glass of wine first! We also had to make all the bouquets, corsages, etc on Thursday morning (and I have NEVER made a bouquet prior to that morning)... not to mention my mom and I were hosting her bridal shower that evening and needed to get home to decorate! Whew! Busy busy day!
Friday was the debacle of cars but also the day of the Lord's protection. One of the ladies who was staying with us car started acting up that morning (a nice way of saying it sounded like a meat grinder and they ended up stuck in Louisiana for an extra 2 days while it was fixed). Then later that day I realized the truck we were in had a super low tire (16#... yikes!). Turns out there was a nail in the tire. Fortunately the Lord had kept us safe while we drove home on the interstate. As we got back on the interstate on our way to the rehearsal (running 20 minutes late) we all started to pray for the van seeing as we were not doing very well with cars that day! Ha ha! The day of the wedding the hook at the top of the wedding dress broke off right before we went down the aisle... not good considering the strapless dress was too big (due to all the weight she lost)... so straight through the photos I would have to pretend I was giving her a hug and pull her dress back up! To all the future brides out there, make sure your wedding dress fits!
But when the week was all over with... we had some great stories to tell from it, Elizabeth and Daniel had said there vows and entered into the marriage covenant and that's what it's all about! The Lord was truly glorified in the ceremony!
I flew home Monday but Justin had left Sunday for Honolulu... official business. Ha ha! I miss home so much and can't wait for him to come home in a few more days! I also can't help but wonder, who will be the next friend to get engaged???
