Growing up in South Louisiana, I heard of these mythical events known as seasons. I heard of them but never got a chance to experience them because where I grew up, there were only 2 seasons: Hot and REALLY Hot. When I moved to Virginia in 2006 I was unpleasantly surprised to climb off the plane on December 12th and discover it was REALLY cold. Turns out seasons aren't a myth. They really exist... and the middle of winter was an interesting introduction.
When we moved to California, the leaves were just starting to change colors and the crisp autumn air had arrived. I was so upset to miss out on the fall. In my several years living in Virginia I had grown to love the seasons and the change that each one offers. I love the summer, the beach, the warmth of the sun, summer evenings BBQ'ing and the fun times that come with the summer.... but after a while, the heat gets old. By the time I'm growing weary of the summer heat, fall comes. Crisp air, beautiful colors, a different wardrobe, the smell of spiced goodies baking in the kitchen and leaves crunching under your feet as you walk. Eventually winter sets in and with it comes Sunday afternoons curled up on the couch with my favorite sweatshirt, a warm blanket, cup of hot chocolate and the fire place going. This winter also brought a fair amount of snow and while I love the cold air, wearing scarves, and family time inside... eventually that also starts to get old.
That's where I've been stuck the last few weeks. The sun will be shining so brightly and I open the door expecting warm air and with the hope that Parker and I will be able to go for a walk... only to have a 40 degree wall of coldness assault me. Ugh.
A few days ago as I looked at the forecast for the coming days I noticed a warming trend. Temperatures in the 60's and 70's.... spring! Now understand, the weathermen/women/computers/etc. have failed miserably in their weather forecasting this year. 3-4 inches of snow ended up being 12-14 inches... a dusting to 1" accumulation ended up being 4+ inches... no snow turned into 3+ inches. Like I said miserably and yet, when I saw this forecast I couldn't help be excited. I placed a call to my hubby letting him know that he would be expected home early on Friday so we could go to the park. Today arrived and when I opened the door to see what the weather was... nothing. By nothing I mean neither cold nor warmth met me. The temperature was perfect.
So off to the park we went. Parker has started staring at his surroundings as he's pushed around and I love watching him stare in amazement. Yes cold weather will be back in a few days but for today, we enjoyed a spring teaser.
