Tonight we went to the Townhall Meeting with Representative Farr (D). What a lively exchange that was! I wish we had taken our camera! There were a bunch of little old ladies that led choir practice before the meeting began... or at least I'm assuming that's what they were doing. They were up in front and singing. We enjoyed many entertaining moments so we thought we would provide you with a few laughs. Enjoy...
Audience Member in Front of us: As far as I'm concerned all politicians are crooks!
Jen: I'm from Louisiana... our politicians are convicted crooks!
Farr: What do you think the single biggest cost to the government is?
Audience: PRIVATE JETS!
Audience Member: Congressman you keep quoting the gazillions of dollars insurance companies make each year. Just so you know, last year insurance companies posted a 1.5% profit compared to the Nasdaq's 5.5% profit... or do you not believe in profit? Nevermind, we know you don't since the Federal Government posts record deficits year after year!
Audience Member: Thank you for letting me talk with you tonight. I just want to let you know that the majority of Americans support this plan. (Not sure what polls he's been looking at.)
Farr: If you like your healthcare... then this doesn't apply to you because this won't affect you.
Justin: Congressman, you said that it's not the Federal Governments job to legislate Tort Reform... that this is a State issue but if the Federal Government can legislate other things that are "State issues" via funding, why not Tort Reform?
Farr: Up to this time there hasn't been much interest in Tort Reform. (This was met with a series of boos.)
While we were waiting in the line to get in, we listened to this little old lady behind us rail. "I honestly don't know what's the matter with people! Why wouldn't you support this! I don't want to be kept alive on machines. Pull the plug! I'm also in favor of euthanasia."
Justin: Hilter was too!
(After this she proceeded to talk about the cortisone shot she was going to get for her achy hip... awww the irony!)
Audience Member: Congressman the CBO report states that this healthcare reform bill will cost us $1T. Since the CBO is supposedly a bipartisan group, how do you explain this.
Farr: Yeah, I was surprised by that number. See the thing to understand is that the accountants don't give us credit for the savings!
It was a night to remember...
